Mark Rylance and Ruby Barnhill Celebrate the Release Of Steven Spielberg’s The BFG on Digital Download, Blu-Ray™ and DVD

THE PAIR CAME TOGETHER AT A MAGICAL GIANT SETTING AT POTTERS FIELD IN LONDON
Today saw Potters Field in London transform into a scene straight out of giant country as key cast Mark Rylance and Ruby Barnhill came together to celebrate the release of the most gloriumptious film of the year, The BFG, out now on Digital Download, Blu-ray™ and DVD.
Set against the backdrop of London’s iconic Tower Bridge, passers-by looked on to a larger-than-life snow covered landscape, adorned with The BFG’s two giant-sized footprints and equally giant dream-blower trumpet and bag. Symbolising the iconic character created by Britain’s best loved novelist, Roald Dahl, it was as if The BFG had visited London to deliver Phizz-Whizzing dreams to all the good children this Christmas.
The installation itself took five hours to complete, carefully constructing a bed of snow from over 8 cubic metres of both real and artificial snow into which The BFG’s footprints were embedded. Complemented with giant props inspired by the film, this special event was designed to convey the sheer size of this monumental character right here in the heart of London and mark the home entertainment release of The BFG.
Mark Rylance said “I like the idea of The BFG jumping over Tower Bridge that seems like something he would have done. And because he brought his bag and stuff, it’s almost as if he’d come for it and got too nervous and then jumped away and hid. It was lovely.”
Ruby Barnhill said “I’m absolutely amazed to be here with Mark and it’s really lovely to be here in the snow and it’s great to know that so many people really love the BFG and are excited about the DVD.”
The BFG tells the exciting tale of a young girl named Sophie who lives in an orphanage in London. One night, Sophie sees a large, cloaked person in her bedroom window who takes her away to his homeland in Giant Country. There, he identifies himself as the Big Friendly Giant ('BFG'). Considered an outcast by his fellow children-eating giants, the BFG spends his nights sweeping the streets of London blowing bottled dreams into children’s bedrooms and sustaining himself on a diet of ‘snozzcumbers’ – a foul tasting vegetable substitute to ‘human beans’.
Directed by three-time Academy Award winning director, Steven Spielberg (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park), The BFG stars Oscar-winning actor, Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies, The Other Boleyn Girl) as The BFG and newcomer Ruby Barnhill as Sophie. Penelope Wilton plays The Queen, Rebecca Hall as Mary, the Queen’s maid, and Rafe Spall as her Butler. They are joined by Jemaine Clement and Bill Hader as two of the formidable giants.
