Martin Scorsese handpicked for Jo Nesbo’s The Snowman

Hollywood filmmaking legend Martin Scorsese has signed on to direct the forthcoming adaptation of crime thriller The Snowman.

Author Jo Nesbø personally handpicked Scorsese after her initially expressed interest in October and made the announcement to a Swedish newspaper.

It is not yet known if The Snowman will be Scorsese's next film or a future project, but what is known is that The Snowman is the seventh novel in Nesbø's series of books about Oslo detective Harry Hole, which sees him investigating Norway's first serial killer, who always leaves a snowman near the scene of his crime.

World War Z scribe Matthew Michael Carnahan will write the screenplay with Working Title Films producing.

Oscar winning Scorsese brought us The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island and his next film is his first 3D film entitled Hugo based on Brian Selznick's children's book The Invention of Hugo Cabret which is out now Stateside and comes to UK screens on December 2.
