Mel Gibson is in serious discussions to join Machete Kills

24 April 2012

He will next be seen in Adrian Grunberg's How I Spent My Summer Vacation in May and word is two time Oscar winner Mel Gibson is close to signing a deal to appear in Machete Kills.

Gibson was rumoured to be joining the sequel alongside My Week with Marilyn babe Michelle Williams earlier this month but according to Deadline, Gibson is in "serious discussions" to join the cast headed by Danny Trejo, who will reprise his 2010 titular role.

Robert Roriguez is set to direct Machete Kills, but has revealed that he may need to enlist another director if the shoot conflicts with Sin City: A Dame to Kill For telling The Hollywood Reporter "Currently I am directing it, but we're checking to see if there's going to be the need for another director if I have to go off and do Sin City... But Machete looks like it's going to go pretty quickly, so it's possible that I will direct the whole thing.

There's so much of it that I want to direct I'll probably end up directing the whole thing, but if I have to step off, I'm going to try and shoot all of the actors and all of the main sequences.
It's such a fun movie, and it just came out even more fun than I could have imagined."

Trejo is the only cast member to be returning, there's no word if anyone else will return.
