Mexican favourite Eugenio Derbez to voice title role in fast tracked Speedy Gonzalez film from Warner Bros.

05 April 2016

One of our favourite Looney Tunes looks to be heading to the big screen, with word that a Speedy Gonzalez film that has been in the works since 2010 has been fast tracked due to Donald Trump!

Warner Bros. Producer David Sellers explained how the controversial Republican Presidential hopeful inspired the film revealing "We see this as an origin story of the great master, like a Robin Hood character, who ultimately ends up taking from the rich and giving to the poor.

In a time when Donald Trump is gaining momentum, the world needs Speedy more than ever."

The Speedy Gonzalez film has the working title of Speedy and is described as a heist caper and will feature the voice talents of Mexican actor and director Eugenio Derbez as the titular hero, and comparing Speedy to a superhero, Derbez said "He watched out for the little people, but with a lot of bravado and a weakness for the ladies.

I'm really excited to be bringing this character to the big screen. And besides being Mexican, my full name is Eugenio Derbez Gonzalez and I have big ears. The casting couldn't be better."

Speedy Gonzalez first appeared in 1953 and was voiced by Warner Bros. favourite Mel Blanc.

At present there is no release date for Speedy, but it will be available in both English and Spanish.
