Mia Wasikowska is filming Jane Eyre

31 March 2010

Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre is heading back to the big screen. Focus Features just announced filming is set to begin new week on the romantic drama starring Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) and Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds). Cary Fukunaga, writer and director of the critically acclaimed Spanish language film Sin Nombre, is helming Jane Eyre.

Joining Wasikowska and Fassbender in the film are Sally Hawkins, Judi Dench, Tamzin Merchant, and Imogen Poots. Jamie Bell, who co-starred alongside Wasikowska in Defiance, has also signed on to the cast. Moira Buffini adapted the screenplay.

In making the announcement on the start of filming, Focus CEO James Schamus stated, "Cary is the ideal choice to realize this unforgettable story in its traditional setting, yet with contemporary vitality and spirit. With two of today's most promising new stars in Mia and Michael, plus an outstanding supporting cast, this will be a Jane Eyre for the ages."

Filming will take place in the U.K.
