Michael Fassbender wanted for Prisoners

21 August 2011

Sought after German born Irish actor Michael Fassbender has reportedly been offered the lead role in upcoming revenge thriller Prisoners.

Based on a 2009 Black List script by Aaron Guzikowski which sees religious deer hunter Keller Dove who is frustrated by the pace of the police investigation kidnaps and tortures the man he believes abducted his daughter and her friend with Incendies director Denis Villeneuve was hired earlier this year to direct.

The role would be right up Fassbender 's street, and this offer comes after the likes of Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg, Hugh Jackman and Leonardo DiCaprio showed interest in the role at various points.

Fassbender has completed work on some high profile projects recently including Ridley Scott's Prometheus, David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method and Steve McQueen's Shame. As well as circling roles in Brendan Gleeson's directorial debut, At Swim-Two-Birds, and a Jim Jarmusch vampire flick. However he did have to leave Danny Boyle's Trance recently to be replaced by his X-Men: First class co star James McAvoy.

Fassbender will next be seen in Steven Soderbergh's Haywire alongside Gina Carano and Ewan McGregor on January 20.
