Michael Gambon and Imelda Staunton join the cast of Paddington

06 October 2014

Also starring Ben Whishaw (the voice of PADDINGTON), Hugh Bonneville, Nicole Kidman, Sally Hawkins, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi and Julie Walters.

STUDIOCANAL and Heyday Films today announced that Michael Gambon (THE KING’S SPEECH, the HARRY POTTER film series) and Imelda Staunton (PRIDE, MALEFICENT) have joined the cast of PADDINGTON bringing their voices to PADDINGTON’s Uncle Pastuzo and Aunt Lucy.

The World Premiere of PADDINGTON will be held at The Odeon Leicester Square on Sunday 23 November 2014

PADDINGTON’S all star cast is led by acclaimed young British talent, Ben Whishaw (PERFUME, BRIGHT STAR) as the voice of PADDINGTON Bear, Hugh Bonneville (TV's DOWNTON ABBEY, THE MONUMENTS MEN) as uptight patriarch Mr Brown, Nicole Kidman (BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP, THE HOURS) as Millicent, an evil taxidermist with her eye on PADDINGTON, Sally Hawkins (BLUE JASMINE, HAPPY GO LUCKY) as kindly and free-spirited Mrs Brown, Jim Broadbent (THE IRON LADY, MOULIN ROUGE) as Mr Gruber, wise advisor to PADDINGTON, Peter Capaldi (TV’s DOCTOR WHO, THE THICK OF IT) as the Browns’ curtain twitching nosey neighbour and Julie Walters (the HARRY POTTER film series, MAMMA MIA!) as eccentric housekeeper Mrs Bird. The film also introduces bright young newcomers, Samuel Joslin (THE IMPOSSIBLE) and Madeleine Harris as the Brown children Jonathan and Judy, who offer a lost bear protection and change their own lives forever.

PADDINGTON follows the comic misadventures of a young Peruvian bear with a passion for all things British, who travels to London in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone at Paddington Station, he begins to realise that city life is not all he had imagined - until he meets the kindly Brown family, who read the hand-written label around his neck (‘Please look after this bear. Thank you.’) and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though Paddington's luck has changed- that is, until this rarest of bears catches the eye of a certain museum taxidermist, with an old score to settle...

PADDINGTON is the timeless and universal story of an outsider in search of a home, in a modern world that's sometimes difficult to navigate. PADDINGTON is based on the best-selling and internationally adored series of children's stories by British author Michael Bond, from an original screenplay by filmmaker Paul King (BUNNY AND THE BULL). A Heyday Films and STUDIOCANAL production, PADDINGTON is directed by the twice BAFTA-nominated King and produced by multiple award-winning David Heyman (GRAVITY, the HARRY POTTER series) and Jeffrey Clifford (NO STRINGS ATTACHED, UP IN THE AIR) and executive produced by Heyday's Rosie Alison and by Alexandra Ferguson.
