Michelle Williams demanded My Week With Marilyn audition before accepting the role

02 November 2011

My Week with Marilyn comes to cinemas later this month and Michelle Williams who plays the iconic bombshell has spoken to Elle magazine about demanding an audition.

Filmmaker Simon Curtis asked the Shutter Island and Brokeback Mountain hottie to star as the screen icon in the upcoming biopic but wouldn't take the role of Marilyn Monroe without an audition insisting on playing a scene in character to show him she was truly talented enough.

"I said, 'I want both of us to know that I can do this, I don't want to be offered this role for any other reason than we know that I'm capable of it.'"

However she recalls that her first few days of shooting were daunting adding "I was so scared. I think after the second day, I told them they had to take away my passport because I was a flight risk - I wanted to hop on the next train to the Alps or something and get the hell out because it was terrifying."

My Week With Marilyn comes to cinemas on November 25 and features a stellar cast of Emma Watson, Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Redmayne, Dominic Cooper, Julia Ormond, Judi Dench, Dougray Scott, Derek Jacobi, Zoë Wanamaker and Toby Jones.
