Michelle Williams’ My Week with Marilyn announced as centrepiece at New York Film Festival

04 August 2011

She was last seen in western Meek's Cutoff as Emily Tetherow alongside the likes of Bruce Greenwood and Paul Dano and now it has emerged that Michelle Williams' latest offering My Week with Marilyn where she plays the iconic Marilyn Monroe will be the centrepiece for The Film Society at its 49th New York Film Festival.

Directed by David Copperfield's Simon Curtis, My Week with Marilyn will have its world premiere on October 9th and follows the 1956 diaries of British filmmaker Colin Clark (The Pillars of the Earth‘s Eddie Redmayne). That summer, Clark took Marilyn Monroe (Williams) away from Hollywood and showed her the British lifestyle.

Film Society program director Richard Peña said of the announcement “After seeing Marilyn Monroe so often portrayed in films as a caricature, it is a pleasure to see this complex personality and unique on-screen presence portrayed so well by such a talented actress.”

My Week with Marilyn sees its UK release on November 18 and also stars Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Redmayne, Dominic Cooper, Julia Ormond, Judi Dench, Dougray Scott, Derek Jacobi and Harry Potter sweetheart Emma Watson.
