Momentum Pictures Celebrates 10Th Anniversary Of Amelie With Cinema Rerelease And Blu-Ray

25 August 2011

Almost ten years to the day of its initial UK release, AMELIE, the unforgettable tale of a waitress spreading love across Paris, will return to cinemas on 14th October and, for the first time, be available to own on Blu-Ray from 17th October.

Amelie Poulain (Audrey Tautou) has led a sheltered life- educated at home by over-protective parents, she retreats into a fantasy world of her own.  When she finally leaves home and finds work as a waitress in a Parisian cafe, life is pretty uneventful until a chain of extraordinary events leads her to the discovery of a tin box containing a schoolboy's long forgotten mementos.  It is then that Amelie discovers her true vocation in life- helping others find love and happiness- which she sets about in her own unique and magical way. When Amelie falls in love herself, she realises that making neat solutions is not as easy as it seems...

The winner of two BAFTA awards and nominated for five Academy Awards, Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s AMELIE was one of the most talked about films of 2001, smashing box office records for foreign language films, propelling Audrey Tautou into a household name and transforming its Paris locations into must-see landmarks for all cinema fans.

“AMELIE has charmed millions of film fans since we first released it in 2001.  It still stands as the second most successful foreign language film in the UK and was partly responsible for the surge in popularity for mainstream European cinema that is so strong today,” said Xavier Marchand, Managing Director of Momentum Pictures, an Alliance Films company.  “We’re very excited to offer a film like this in stunning Blu-Ray alongside some of our most successful titles from the past decade.”

Special preview screenings of the film with an introduction by director Jean-Pierre Jeunet (TBC) will be held across the UK on Wednesday 12th October in association with MEDIA Desk UK, and AMELIE is one of the 20 films screening in the 20th anniversary celebration season of the European Union’s MEDIA Programme, Europe Loves Cinema.  Tickets will be on sale from participating cinemas.

Packed with special features and in dazzling HD, the Blu-Ray of AMELIE will be released by Momentum Pictures with a number of contemporary classics including LOST IN TRANSLATION, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, CONTROL and REQUIEM FOR A DREAM.

Also as part of the celebration, The Nomad Cinema will host an outdoor screening of the film in Dulwich Park on Thursday 1 September at 8pm.  Tickets can be purchased here.
