Winner of the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the 2017 Berlin Film Festival

MUBI is delighted to bring the highly acclaimed FÉLICITÉ, winner of the Silver Bear Jury Grand Prix at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival – to big screens around the UK on 10th November 2017. The film will be available on MUBI from 9th December 2017.

Directed by Alain Gomis (Andalucia, Tey), the film tells the story of Félicité (Véro Tshanda Beya Mputu), a proud, free-willed woman working as a singer in a bar in Kinshasa. Her life is thrown into turmoil when her 14-year-old son falls victim to an accident. To save him, she sets out on a breakneck race through the streets of electric Kinshasa - a world of music and dreams where she’ll cross paths with Tabu…

 

 

The film will screen at the Opening Gala of the Africa in Motion Festival in Edinburgh on October 27th, and will play as part of FILM AFRICA across various UK locations throughout October and November. For screening dates please visit online.

ABOUT ALAIN GOMIS
Alain is a Franco-Bissau Guinean-Senegalese award-winning director, who was born and raised in France. His first two short films, Tourbillons and Pettie Lumiere, were selected and received awards at several international festivals. In 2001, his first feature-length film, L’Afrance , won the Silver Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival. Then came Andalucia in 20017 starring Samir Guesmi, and Tey starring Saul Williams, which was selected for competition at Berlin and won the Golden Stallion at Fespaco in 2013. A partner at Granit Films along with newton Aduaka (Nigerian director, Ezra) and Valelrie Osouf (French director), Alain also works with producer Oumar Sall (Cinékap) on a training program for young filmmakers and technicians in Senegal (Up Court-métrages). FÉLICITÉ is his 4th feature-length film.
