Musical Based On Popular 1959 Film SOME LIKE IT HOT Goes Straight To Broadway In 2021 Cancelling Chicago Preview
SOME LIKE IT HOT, the popular 1959 film starring MARILYN MONROE, will no longer have its theatrical debut in Chicago this year, but will open on BROADWAY in Autumn 2021. The musical will be directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner CASEY NICHOLAW (The Prom).
The Billy Wilder comedy follows two male musicians (TONY CURTIS and JACK LEMMON) in Chicago who witness a mob hit and go on the run disguising themselves as women in a band, but both falling for the lead singer (MONROE).
The theatrical reproduction will feature the book by Matthew Lopez (The Inheritance), music by Marc Shaiman and a co-production of the lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Witmann (Hairspray).
Some Like It Hot has been in development with an open planned for 2020. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic, the schedule has been altered, including removing the pre-Broadway run in Chicago. Production dates for 2021, the cast and location are still to be determined.
