Oiffy, Fortissimo Films and Signature Entertainment’s THE WHITE KING to Celebrate its World Premiere at Edinburgh International Film Festival

07 June 2016

Oiffy, Fortissimo Films and Signature Entertainment are delighted to celebrate the World Premiere of dystopian fable THE WHITE KING on Saturday 18th June at Edinburgh International Film Festival (at Cineworld 3, 18.20) where it's nominated for the Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature Film and The Award for Best Performance in a British Feature Film. The film will be released in the UK by Signature Entertainment with international sales through Fortissimo Films.

THE WHITE KING is the directorial debut of co-directors Jörg Tittel & Alex Helfrecht and boasts an impressive cast including Agyness Deyn (SUNSET SONG, HAIL CAESAR), Jonathan Pryce (GAME OF THRONES, BRAZIL), Fiona Shaw (TREE OF LIFE, HARRY POTTER), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (THE DEEP, TRAPPED, TRUE DETECTIVE), Greta Scacchi (WAR AND PEACE, THE FALLING), the voice of Olivia Williams (AN EDUCATION) and introducing Lorenzo Allchurch.

THE WHITE KING is an adaptation of the internationally acclaimed and award winning Hungarian novel of the same name, written by György Dragomán. Also shot entirely on location in Hungary, the film follows Djata, a 12-year-old boy coming to grips with his father’s imprisonment by the totalitarian state he calls home. Preyed upon by the secret police and venal dignitaries, Djata and his mother (Agyness Deyn) are forced to navigate a world of propaganda, abuse and vicious gangs, making them risk everything to reunite their family.

THE WHITE KING is directed by husband & wife team Alex Helfrecht & Jörg Tittel. They have won awards in several creative areas including film, theatre, videogames & comics. The film is produced by Philip Munger at Oiffy with Teun Hilte (BLACK BOOK) and post-production partner Chimney Group (LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, HER, TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY).

Directors Jörg Tittel & Alex Helfrecht said “We are honoured to be a part of EIFF's fantastic 2016 lineup. We have always viewed EIFF as one of the world's greatest cinematic events and a launchpad for stories with a uniquely global outlook."
