Olivia Thirlby signs to Pete Travis’ ‘Judge Dredd’

The lovely and talented Olivia Thirlby, who starred in 'The Wackness' with Josh Peck and Ben Kingsley and 'Juno' alongside Ellen Page has been doing the rounds with science fiction epics, and while she has been shooting 'The Darkest Hour' in Moscow, she has joined the cast of the Pete Travis directed Judge Dredd as the telepathic rookie recruit Judge Cassandra Anderson.
According to the producers Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich “The main thing about Judge Dredd is that it’s a fantastic comic that was completely messed up 20 years ago. Our idea is to make a very hard, R-rated, gritty, realistic movie of Dredd in Megacity, so we’ve got to get the tone right. He’s not going to take off his helmet. His bike is going to feel real.”
While Judge Anderson didn't appear in the 1995 Sylvester Stallone starring adaptation of the 2000AD icon, she did receive her own spin off in the graphic novel series.
Olivia will join the already announced Karl Urban as Judge Dredd, and the film will shoot in South Africa later this year from a script by Alex Garland for a 2012 release.
