Optimum Releasing announce The Diana Rigg AVENGERS marathon

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of classic British TV series THE AVENGERS, all of the episodes featuring Diana Rigg will be screening back to back in a specially 60s themed Gallery space at the BFI Southbank, curated by Vintage film creator Stephen Woolley, for the duration of the Vintage at Southbank Centre festival, 29-31 July,

With its imaginative stories of secret agents in 1960s swinging Britain, THE AVENGERS  combines science fiction with fantasy, fashion and a unique sense of British style. Pioneering the use of all manner of tricks and gadgets THE AVENGERS created in Steed (Patrick Macnee), the archetypal English gentleman in Savile Row suit, bowler hat and umbrella. Alongside him were sexy, powerful women in high-heeled “kinky boots” – most memorably Emma Peel (Diana Rigg).

So it is Mrs Peel we celebrate this weekend - as well as being able to enjoy watching THE AVENGERS for free, fans are encouraged to dress up as Diana Rigg and enter the Mrs. Peel look-a-like contest that will run concurrently over the course of the weekend, with the winner to be chosen by an expert panel and awarded an Avengers Complete 50thAnniversary Collection Box-set!

Mrs. Peel wannabes are asked to present themselves at the Gallery between 3pm and 5pm each day, where their photo will be taken with a Fujifilm Instax 210 instant camera – generously donated by Fuji for the event – and added to a display to be judged on Sunday evening at 5pm.

The longest running espionage series produced for English-language television, The Avengers eventually reached audiences in 120 countries, a record that still stands to this day.  Now, with the release of The Avengers: The Complete 50th Anniversary Collection you can enjoy every single episode of this timeless classic time and time again.

To enter the Diana Rigg Look-a-like Contest, please present yourself in costume between 3pm and 5pm on any of the above days, and your photo and details will be taken and kept for the judging on Sunday evening at 5pm. You will then be notified by email if you have one The Avengers: The Complete 50th Anniversary Collection box-set.
