Oscar winner Jim Broadbent wouldn’t have chosen to play Denis Thatcher in The Iron Lady

02 January 2012

Oscar winning British actor Jim Broadbent famed for roles in films including Gangs of New York, Iris and Moulin Rouge! has admitted that he would not have personally chosen to play The Iron Lady's Denis Thatcher.

Broadbent who has portrayed Professor Kirke in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe credits his agent for securing interesting roles "Other people have a much better idea of what I might do than I.

I come out with more predictable notions, but other people somehow have a broader frame of reference, which is more exciting really.

It would never have occurred to me that I might play Denis Thatcher, Lord Longford  or Harold Zidler or any number of the roles I've done."

Broadbent who also appeared in two Harry Potter films will next be seen in The Iron Lady when it opens on Friday, following that he'll be seen with Tom Hanks in the Wachowski's and Tom Tykwer directed Cloud Atlas which will arrive in cinemas later this year.
