Own X-Men: Day of Future Past Digitally from Monday – Sentinel Unleashed at London’s O2

18 October 2014

Fans set to marvel when 18 foot robotic film prop arrives at London’s O2

The ultimate X-Men experience is to arrive at London’s O2 this Sunday as an authentic 18-foot tall Sentinel robot used in blockbuster X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is unveiled as part of a thrilling X-Men exhibition.

In celebration of the film’s Digital HD release on Buy & Keep in Sky Store from 20th October and subsequently on 3D Blu-ray™, Blu-ray™ and DVD on 10th November from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, the Sentinel will wow passers-by for two weeks as part of an interactive X-Men experience that also includes state of the art augmented reality, and an exhibition of props and costumes from the smash hit film.

The enormous robotic Sentinel, a mutant-hunting weapon programmed to capture or kill in the film’s 1970s set scenes, will join the exhibition with spectacular smoke and lighting effects and will be welcomed by hoards of X-Men fans in fancy dress as it lands with a bang in the Greenwich venue on Sunday 19th October.

The Sentinel originally took eight weeks to build and all of its parts are moveable and adjustable.  It weighs over 2,000 pounds and was shipped to the UK in six separate crates.  It will take a team of twelve over ten hours to construct overnight in the O2 before it is spectacularly unveiled on Sunday morning.

The Sentinel is beloved by X-Men fans who eagerly awaited its X-Men debut and were blown away when it first graced the screens in summer blockbuster X-Men: Days of Future Past.  Now it will form part of an exhibition dedicated to the hit film, also featuring props from the film including the iconic brown leather jacket worn by Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and the wheelchair used by Professor Charles Xavier (James McAvoy).  The Sentinel will grace the area for two weeks, giving children the chance to visit during school half term and pose for Sentinel Selfies in a designated spot.

A spokesperson from Twentieth Century Fox said:  “We are beyond excited to unleash the Sentinel on the British public.  It’s totally breathtaking to behold an 18-foot working film prop like this, which really has to be seen up close to be believed.  The UK has played such a huge part in the X-Men franchise, not least its sterling ensemble cast, so it’s fitting that the Sentinel makes its mark here in London.”

X-Men fans will also be invited to discover their mutant genes and put new powers to the test in an absorbing and enthralling experience using state of the art augmented reality technology. The experience will give them claws like Wolverine, the power to eject lightning bolts like Storm, or hurl metal objects like Magneto and all visitors receive souvenir photos.

The exhibition also gives X-Men fans the chance to take their seats at the Sky News HD desk to present the headlines from major scenes in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.  It is open daily at Sky Studios, between 12pm-8pm. All the magical scenes and creations will be captured and uploaded to an online portal, so that family and friends can witness your legendary fight against the energy blasting death machine.

The X-Men Experience is open daily 12pm – 8pm at the O2, London in celebration of the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past to Buy & Keep in Sky Store.  Entry is free of charge.
