Patrick Dempsey in final talks to join Renée Zellweger and Colin Firth in rom-com sequel Bridget Jones’s Baby

10 September 2015

Grey's Anatomy alumni Patrick Dempsey is in final talks to join forthcoming romantic comedy sequel Bridget Jones's Baby alongside returning cast members Renée Zellweger and National Treasure Colin Firth!

Deadline report that it is unknown which role Dempsey is up for, but he will feature alongside Zellweger’s titular Bridget and Firth’s Mark Darcy in the sequel.

Sharon Maguire who directed Bridget Jones's Diary returns to the Director’s chair whilst it is believed that Hugh Grant will not return to play Daniel Cleaver.

It is thought that the forthcoming film is not directly based on Helen Fielding's third Bridget novel published in 2013 entitled Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, which sees Bridget as a mother of two, whilst Darcy had passed away.

First published in 1996, Bridget Jones's Diary was adapted into a feature film starring Zellweger, Grant and Colin Firth in 2001 and a sequel entitled Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason was published in 1999 and adapted to the big screen in 2004.
