Paul Giamatti signs on to play record executive in NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton

He last featured at the villainous Aleksei Sytsevich in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and it has been reported that Paul Giamatti has joined the cast of the forthcoming NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton.

The Hollywood Reporter report that Giamatti has signed up to play record label boss Jerry Heller, the co-founder of Ruthless Records who went onto manage rap group NWA.

Directed by Law Abiding Citizen filmmaker F. Gary Gray, Straight Outta Compton will be set in the mid-1980s, the film will follow the rise and fall of the Compton, California rap group. Heller originally signed the group, but was blamed for playing a role in the break-up that followed Dre and Ice Cube's exit.

Straight Outta Compton is set for release on August 14 2015 in the US and will see original members Ice Cube and Dr Dre serving as Producers on the biopic.
