In 1984, writer/director Wes Craven reinvented and redefined the horror genre with a truly groundbreaking an innovative movie that thrilled and terrified cinema audiences in equal measure.
At the same time Craven introduced the world to one of the genre's most endearing anti-heroes with a movie that would eventually spawn six sequels, one crossover movie and a remake and go on to inspire and influence countless imitators.
Thirty years since its initial release A Nightmare On Elm Street has lost none of its power to tap into the primal fears that frequently haunt our dreams and today the film is quite rightly regarded as a horror classic. In many ways, this is the one horror movie that really does have the potential to keep you awake at night. Starring Robert Englund as the grotesque, razor fingered, wisecracking killer Freddy Krueger, A Nightmare On Elm Street also stars Heather Langenkamp veteran actor John Saxon and in his acting debut a certain Johnny Depp!
So it's time to revisit Elm Street but whatever you do... don't fall asleep.
