Her role of hacker Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is likely the most anticipated performance of the year and rising star Rooney Mara talks to TotalFilm about her upcoming role.

While she has a lot to live up to, what with the astonishing performance from Noomi Rapace, the hordes of fans of the Swedish original as well as the fans of the highly acclaimed book, all evidence so far suggests that Mara has created a Lisbeth to be reckoned with and Mara certainly has an affinity for the iconic character “I felt like there was something at Lisbeth’s core that was at my core too. I could really relate to that, I’m not really a group or team person."

However she explains the ramifications of taking on the iconic role adding “When he offered me the part he explained to me that this film had the potential to change my life, not necessarily for the better.

“It was very emotionally draining, and physically probably even more so, I don’t think you can understand the character unless you’ve been through a winter in Sweden…”

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo which is the first of the Millennium trilogy by Stieg Larsson hits UK screens on December 26 and features an all star cast of Mara with Daniel Craig, Stellan Skarsgård, Robin Wright, Christopher Plummer,Joely Richardson, Geraldine James, Embeth Davidtz, Goran Visnjic, Julian Sands,Steven Berkoff and Alan Dale.
