Robert Pattinson to star in David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis
Robert Pattinson maybe the stuff of teenage dreams, but it appears he's a lot more serious than that, and never intended to become the teenage pin up that he has evolved into thanks to the popular Twilight franchise, he told Empire magazine that he had no idea Twilight would be so huge;
"I thought at the time, with Catherine Hardwicke and Kristen Stewart, it was going to be an indie movie. It seemed really interesting: a teen vampire movie that was going to be like Thirteen and really serious. I had no idea it was going to be this big thing you'd get on Burger King hats."
It seems these days he's prepared to be more cautious with his roles and hates it when a film starts to change right at the beginning of shooting. This is perhaps why he signed up for David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis, Pattinson explained;
"Y'know, there are so few auteurs left. The one thing that pisses me off about working in films is when you start a project and then, suddenly, two days before you start, there's a massive rewrite to make an R-rated movie into something that's PG-13, and it's a totally different story. As soon as that line's been crossed, you know you're not making a movie anymore. You're making a...a... fridge magnet. But with people like Cronenberg you know that, no matter what, there will be a movie at the end, and it will be solid and self-contained, and it's not made for any other reason than it being a movie."
Wow we always suspected Pattinson was as serious in real life as his character in Twilight, Edward Cullen, and he insists, there will be no more Twilight after Breaking Dawn.
Pattinson can also be seen on the cover of April's Entertainmemnt Weekly with Reese Witherspoon, looking very grown up and handsome, and not at all moody. In the interview he says he's actually finding it hard to get into shape for his new role in Cosmopolis thanks to too much beer!
Cosmopolis will also star two very other serious and well respected actors, Paul Giamatti and the wonderful Juliette Binoche that follows a multimillionaire on a 24-hour odyssey across Manhattan. There is no UK release date as of yet, but the film is expected to be released in 2012.
In the meantime you can catch Robert's very serious acting talents in Water For Elephants, out in UK cinema's on the 4th of May 2012.
