RoboCop legend Peter Weller joins JJ Abrams Star Trek sequel

Oscar nominated RoboCop legend Peter Weller who has appeared in films including Screamers, Naked Lunch and Shoot the Moon has joined J.J. Abrams' eagerly awaited Star Trek sequel.

While details surrounding Weller's role aren't being revealed just yet, Weller has experience with the Star Trek franchise on two episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise where he played John Frederick Paxton who was the murderous leader of radical group Terra Prime, which advocates expelling all non-humans from earth and the entire solar system.

The sequel which will be shot in 3D will reunite Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, John cho as Hikaru Sulu, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov and Simon Pegg as Scotty.

Alice Eve is reported to be in talks for an undisclosed role and Benicio Del Toro is widely reported to be playing the villain of the story.

Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof wrote the screenplay with Abrams who is also directing and producing.
