Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson and Toby Kebbell take to the red carpet at the London premiere of Wrath of the Titans

30 March 2012

The Fan Carpet were lucky enough to be in attendance the BFI IMAX in London's Waterloo for the premiere of the action epic Wrath of the Titans last night, and the we got the chance to speak to stars Sam Worthington and Toby Kebbell and director Jonathan Liebesman.

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus the demigod son of Zeus is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity's lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus' godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramírez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans' strength grows stronger as Zeus' remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth...

Speaking to Jonathan Liebesman about casting English rose Rosamund Pike, the director said "She was incredible, just an incredible actress; somehow she can command an army and still be sexy at the same time."

When talking about the training Pike underwent, Liebesman added "She's very dedicated, she trained everyday. She wields a sword like she's done it before, she's awesome!"

When asked about the use of 3D in the action packed sequel, he shared "We are trying really hard to over correct the problems from the first movie, making the 3D as incredible as we can."

When talking to Toby Kebbell about providing the comic relief, the actor said "I didn't feel any pressure, it just turned out nicely that way. Bill Nighy is very funny in it also so it was just a privilege to appear alongside him."

When asked about what he would do if he had godly powers for a day, he shared "I don't even know what godly powers are, I always say x-ray vision, but that's a superhero power, isn't it?"

We also spoke to hero of the story Sam Worthington who said "I wouldn't want to have godly powers; too much responsibility. I'd rather be the fisherman in the village living off baked clams."

When asked if he would like to do a rom-com to mix it up, he shared "Yeah, with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, I think that'll be a great romantic comedy with the three of us."

With the 3D re release of Titanic coming, Worthington was asked if he would be upset to see Avatar be overtaken as the highest grossing film, to which he replied "No, Jim Cameron is my best mate, I think he's a genius, so if it brings people to the cinema then more power to him."

The Fan Carpet were also lucky enough to attend the special Multimedia screening of the film, where the audience were treated to an extra special treat when Liam Neeson and Sam Worthington took to the mic to introduce the film.

Neeson said "The last thing you want is speeches from us, so we aren't going to do it, you came to see a movie that I think is a wonderful film, that we are very proud of, that I think is Hollywood at its best with all the bells and whistles." Worthington simply added "Enjoy the movie, hope you have a great time."
