It has been rumoured for awhile now, but it has been confirmed that Simon Beaufoy who was reported to be Lionsgate’s top choice to write The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire has landed the job and is already hard at work.

Gary Ross who co-wrote the first film with best selling novelist Suzanne Collins and sought after scrip doctor Billy Ray has also been confirmed back at the helm and will also oversee the script written by Beaufoy.

Catching Fire is the second in the series of adventures of Katniss Everdeen, played by rising star Jennifer Lawrence as she and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) are forced to compete in a special 75th staging of the games against past winners as punishment for their defiance.

Woody Harrelson and Liam Hemsworth are also likely to reprise their roles of Haymitch Abernathy and Gale Hawthorne respectively for the second film, which is slated to arrive in cinemas on November 22 2013.

The Hunger Games comes to UK screens on March 23 and features Wes Bentley, Isabelle Fuhrman, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones and Donald Sutherland.
