Chuck Russell's remake of the 1942 classic Arabian Nights is set to get Hannibal Lecter star Anthony Hopkins.

According to sources, Sir Anthony Hopkins is in negotiations to play villian Pharotu, who is a murderous fiend and is trying to gather more magic to rule the lands.

The action-adventure was written by Chuck Russell and Barry P. Ambrose, the period epic centers on a young commander (Liam Hemsworth) who, after his king is murdered in a coup, joins forces with Sinbad, Ali Baba and the Genie from the magic lamp to rescue the queen, Scheherazade.

Shooting is expected to start at the end of summer, with a 2011 release.
