Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellan X-Men franchise future revealed

10 February 2015

Veteran X-Men actor Patrick Stewart has confirmed that it is “very unlikely” that he will reprise his role as Professor Charles Xavier; however, he has said that Ian McKellan will appear in X-Men: Apocalypse.

This news contradicts reports that the older version of Magneto would not appear in Bryan Singer's next Marvel Comics/20th Century Fox film.

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender will play the younger Professor Xavier and Magneto respectively in X-Men: Apocalypse.

While Stewart won’t be reprising his role in the future fans can catch him a last time in the upcoming Wolverine film.

Stewart spoke to Oregon Live a bit about his upcoming appearance, saying "What I'm very excited about is that we have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together.

Wolverine and Professor Xavier. That would be a very different sort of X-Men from the four movies that I've already done."
X-Men: Apocalypse will hit cinemas in the UK on May 19 2016 and stars Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Evan Peters, Channing Tatum, Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Hoult, Oscar Isaac, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Rose Byrne and Jackman returns to the tituar role in Wolverine 3 due out March 2017.
