Smith explains risqu

28 December 2009

Kevin Smith has explained why he has changed the title of his new cop comedy.

His new caper, which stars Bruce Willis and Tracey Morgan as a pair of wisecracking law officials, was originally going to be called A Couple Of Dicks, but Smith has agreed to change the title to Cop Out.

And he has revealed that he made the changes after discovering that the original title would have faced the same harsh censorship from TV advertising outlets as his previous movie - Zack and Miri Make A Porno.

Smith told Entertainment Weekly, "The word 'Porno' in that title became 'very problematic'. It became tough for us to advertise. Warner Bros decided, 'Hey man, we'll call the networks and see if we're going to get any problems (with A Couple of Dicks), months before the movie's ever going to come out.

"The top 3 networks - CBS, ABC, NBC - said, "We can't run one of your spots before 9 o'clock'.

"Warner Bros' feeling was like, 'We have to advertise to the sports audience on Saturday and Sunday, and all those sporting events usually take place before 9 pm in the evening.'

"At which point, I was like, 'Oh wow, you guys are way smarter than me.'"
