Sony debunk latest Spider-Man rumours

15 January 2015

Last night fresh rumours arose from Latino Review that suggested that Spider-Man would play an integral role in Marvel’s slated upcoming outing for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Infinity War.

Supposedly the new deal struck between Marvel and Sony would have a new actor in the role of the wall crawler, the report goes on to suggest that Captain America would be dead and Thor imprisoned, leaving the stage free for a new group of Avengers.

Talking to Comic Book Resources, Sony debunked the report saying it is an "old rumour" with "no validity whatsoever". This rumour comes months after the Sony hacks revealed that the studio had discussed the possibility of Spider-Man starring in the Russos' Captain America: Civil War in 2016.

It is believed that Joe and Anthony Russo will helm the eagerly awaited two part outing for the Avengers taking over from Joss Whedon who will serve as Producer on the project.

The next outing for the Avengers will be the April release of Avengers: Age of Ultron which features Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Elizabeth Olsen, James Spader, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Don Cheadle, Thomas Kretschmann, Paul Bettany, Andy Serkis, Hayley Atwell, Stellan Skarsgård, Anthony Mackie with Tom Hiddleston and Idris Elba.
