During their last days of summer and childhood, four young girls struggle with the harsh truths of growing up and embark on a mysterious adventure. SUMMERING, a gentle coming of age story co-starring Lake Bell (Man Up), Sarah Cooper (TV’s “Sarah Cooper: Everything's Fine”), Ashley Madekwe (County Lines) and Megan Mullally (TV's "Will and Grace"), is available to Download & Keep and To Rent on Digital from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment from Monday 16 January.
Starring newcomer Lia Barnett as Daisy, Madalen Mills (The Tiger Rising) as Dina, Eden Grace Redfield (Home Again) as Mari and Sanai Victoria (Beaches) as Lola, as lifelong friends, inseparable since starting elementary school, but with the first day of middle school just around the corner, they are all anxious and excited about the changes that lie ahead. On the last weekend of summer, the girls return to their favourite spot in the nearby woods, only to find a grim surprise that sets them on a life-changing adventure which will bond them forever.
As each girl is forced to face her own hopes and fears, they all take another step toward adulthood together.
Directed by James Ponsoldt (The End of the Tour, The Spectacular Now), the film is a rare adventure story told from the point of view of women and girls, a nostalgic celebration of friendship, imagination and the mysteries of childhood.
