Sought after Actress Alicia Vikander reveals why she gave up Ballet for Acting career
Sought after Actress Alicia Vikander who returns to Cinemas with The Danish Girl alongside Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne has opened up as to why she gave up the gruelling life of a ballet student and turned to acting.
The Ex Machina and Testament of Youth Actress told Harper’s Bazaar she loved being on stage but felt she did not have the same dedication as her peers at the Royal Swedish Ballet School revealing “I think I knew deep down that I wouldn’t be able to dance until [I was] thirtysomething, I still have a really bad back ... but it wasn’t just that. First of all, I don’t think I wanted to live my life as a dancer. It’s hard, and I realised I really loved to dance and be on stage, but it’s also three, four hours of training every day to do that, to be on that level.
I could sometimes be a bit sad, and I was quite hard on myself and jealous emotionally of some of the girls who I saw just loved it.
Even though we danced seven hours a day, six days a week, they were like, ‘Oh, we can come at 4.30am to school just to do a little extra stretching on my foot.’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know if I...’ I don’t have it.”
Vikander recently entered negotiations to join the cast of Wim Wenders’ romantic thriller Submergence alongside James McAvoy.
Submergence is based on J.M. Ledgard’s novel of the same name that ranked second in New York Magazine’s list of the 10 Best Books of 2013 and centres on two lovers, facing life-or-death situations and separated by thousands of miles, who find solace in memories of their romance. One is held captive by jihadist fighters in Somalia while the other is exploring the greatest depths of the ocean floor from her submersible.
