Sought after Oscar winner Brie Larson named as frontrunner alongside Filmmaker Jennifer Kent for Marvel’s Captain Marvel

02 June 2016

Whilst Doctor Strange is the next entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, word is that Oscar winning Room Actress Brie Larson is the frontrunner for the coveted role of the super heroine Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel!

Not only that, The Hollywood Reporter report that The Babadook filmmaker Jennifer Kent is one of several filmmaker to helm the first adventure for the part-Kree, part-human Avenger, with New Zealand director Niki Caro who directed Whale Rider also in the running to direct the MCU entry.

Kent is currently in pre-production on The Nightingale, a drama set in Tasmania in 1829 about a woman seeking revenge for the murder of her family who enlists the help of an Aboriginal outcast.

Larson will next be seen in Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire later this year and Dan Baron’s Basmati Blues ready for release. She also has Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island in post production and is currently filming The Glass Castle from filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton.

Captain Marvel is set to hit Cinemas on March 8 2018 and will be written by Inside Out scribe Meg LeFauve and Guardians of the Galaxy scribe Nicole Perlman.
