Spider-Man 4 tangled because of script concerns

Work has been reportedly put on hold on Spider-Man 4 because of script concerns.

Work was due to begin on Spider-Man 4 in February, but has been delayed because of Sam Raimi's reported displeasure with the script. It now throws the film's proposed release date in 2011 in doubt.

An industry insider told gossip site Deadline, "It is unlikely that May 11, 2011, date will be made. It depends on how quickly the script can get in."

The insider added, "Some decisions have been made over the holiday about Spider-Man 4. We will be extending the production hiatus on the film. The studio is firmly committed to this franchise but, for us, the script must come first. We intend to notify members of the crew immediately.

"As you know, Alvin Sargent is currently working on the screenplay."
