Spoiler warning – Benedict Cumberbatch’s Star Trek villain revealed

01 May 2012

We are just over a year away until JJ Abrams' Star Trek sequel boldly goes into cinemas, and while the details surrounding the sequel are being kept pretty hush hush, it has emerged who Benedict Cumberbatch will play.

This is a spoiler so if you do not want to know who he will play in the sequel opposite Simon Pegg's Scotty, Zoe Saldana's Uhura, Karl Urban's McCoy, Chris Pine's Kirk, Anton Yelchin's Chekov, Zachary Quinto's Spock and John Cho's Sulu then look away now.

For those of you who are still here, Cumberbatch will reportedly be playing the villainous Khan according to sources from TrekMovie.

Khan is a genetically-enhanced tyrant who was famously brought to the big screen by Ricardo Montalban in the 1967 Star Trek episode Space Seed and the film sequel Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Word is that Leonard Nimoy is "talking" to the filmmakers to return to his role of Spock for the eighth time.
