12 February 2013

Star Trek legend George Takei has weighed in on the news that JJ Abrams will oversee both the Star Trek and Star Wars franchises, revealing that he is "all for" it.

Speaking to Access Hollywood, Takei joked "I showed the path to JJ." And referring to 2009's Star Trek "He came and thought out of the box."

Speaking about the cast, Takei who played Sulu in the original Star Trek added "I'm glad that they cast younger people... Can you imagine Bill Shatner today bouncing around? It wouldn't have had the same feel."

May 17 sees the release of Star Trek into Darkness and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho, Peter Weller, Bruce Greenwood and Noel Clarke.

Abrams' entry into the Star Wars Saga is said to arrive in cinemas in 2015 and it has been confirmed that there will be a string of stand alone entries in the Star Wars universe focusing on iconic characters in the saga.
