Starzplay Will Premiere Limited Event Series THE STAND Based On Stephen King’s Post-Apocalyptic Best-Selling Novel

STARZPLAY TO PREMIERE LIMITED EVENT SERIES BASED ON STEPHEN KING’S POST-APOCALYPTIC BEST-SELLING NOVEL“THE STAND” IN EUROPE AND LATIN AMERICA ON 3 JANUARY, 2021

Starzplay, the international premium streaming service from Starz, announced today it has acquired the limited series adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Stand” for international distribution across its global footprint and will premiere the series in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latin America, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the UK on Sunday, 3 January, 2021.

“The Stand” is Stephen King’s apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg) and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgård), the Dark Man. “The Stand” will close with a new coda written by the famed author himself for this current adaptation.

In addition to Whoopi Goldberg and Alexander Skarsgård, the series also features James Marsden (“Mrs. America,” “Dead to Me”), Odessa Young, Jovan Adep, Amber Heard (Aquaman), Owen Teague, Henry Zaga (The New Mutants), Brad William Henke (“Manhunt,” “Orange is the New Black”), Irene Bedard, Nat Wolff (Death Note, Paper Towns), Eion Bailey, Heather Graham, Katherine McNamara (“Arrow,” Maze Runner: The Death Cure), Fiona Dourif, Natalie Martinez (Death Race), Hamish Linklater, Daniel Sunjata (The Dark Knight Rises) and Greg Kinnear.

The series is produced by CBS Studios and is distributed internationally by ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group. Benjamin Cavell serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Taylor Elmore, Will Weiske, Jimmy Miller, Roy Lee and Richard P. Rubinstein. Josh Boone serves as director and an executive producer for the series premiere and final episode. Jake Braver, Jill Killington, Owen King, Knate Lee, and Stephen Welke serve as producers.
