Stephen King confirms Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey as gunslinger and man in back for the long awaited adaptation of The Dark Tower

02 March 2016

It has been reported that prolific Author Stephen King has confirmed the involvement of Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey in the long awaited big screen adaptation of The Dark Tower.

Entertainment Weekly report that Elba has been confirmed as the gunslinger with McConaughey as the mystical foe known as the man in black, the villain of the story.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, King said “The thing is, it’s been a looong trip from the books to the film, when you think about it, I started these stories as a senior in college, sitting in a little shitty cabin beside the river in Maine, and finally this thing is actually in pre-production now, I’m delighted, and I’m a little bit surprised.”

The Director of the film, Nikolaj Arcel added “What Stephen King does best is mixing the everyday, or what you might call the mundane, with the fantastical, in my view, [The Dark Tower] novels are a mix between sci-fi and fantasy and modern times. That exact mix is so Stephen King.”

Arcel will share screenwriting credit with Anders Thomas Jensen, Akiva Goldsman, and Jeff Pinkner.
Set for release on January 13 2017, The Dark Tower also stars Mad Max: Fury Road and Gods of Egypt star Abbey Lee.

Elba will next be seen as Sean Briar in Bastille Day on April 22, heard as Chief Bogo in Zootropolis on March 25 and heard as Shere Khan in Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book. He also has Finding Dory, Star Trek: Beyond and A Hundred Streets in post production.

McConaughey will next be seen as Newton Knight in Free State of Jones on May 27 and has Kubo and the Two Strings and Sing in post production.
