Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly set to team as Laurel & Hardy in Jon S Baird’s biopic STAN & OLLIE
Comedy heavyweights Steve Coogan and John C Reilly are set to team up for Jon S Baird's forthcoming biopic Stan & Ollie as Comedy legends Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy!
Developed by BBC Films and written by Philomena's Jeff Pope, Stan & Ollie will focus Laurel and Hardy's classic 1953 tour of Britain, at a later stage in their careers and after their fame had dwindled. Despite poor ticket sales, Laurel and Hardy continued to make each other laugh, and their performances won rave reviews.
Talking about the biopic, Pope said "Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy are my heroes, when I watch their movies, in my head it is forever a Saturday morning and I am 6 years old watching the TV at home, utterly spellbound.
I am aware of the huge responsibility of bringing their characters to life, but I have not treated the boys with kid gloves or looked at them through rose-coloured specs. They are living and breathing characters, with flaws and shortcomings."
Coogan returns to Cinemas with The Secret Life of Pets on June 24 and Reilly was last seen alongside Colin Farrell in The Lobster and is currently filming Kong: Skull Island with Oscar favourite Brie Larson.
