Support Acts Announced for THE STEVIE WONDER SONG PARTY: A CELEBRATION OF LIFE, LOVE & MUSIC with Special Guest Lionel Richie

01 July 2019

6th July, 2019

More fantastic supports for Stevie Wonder at British Summer Time Hyde Park on Saturday 6th July have just been announced:

- Joel Culpepper
- Benedict Cork
- Norman Jay MBE
- The Heavy
- The Cuban Brothers
- Four of Diamonds
- Attawalpa
- Conrad

More details here:

Joel Culpepper is a London born R&B artist with a style inspired by British fashion and modern culture. His unforgettable voice compliments and contributes to the impact of his exceptional live shows. Culpepper’s song writing ranges from mostly ballads to evoking elements of psychedelia and hip hop.

Benedict Cork released his first EP ‘Piano Tapes’ over the summer of 2018, a completely live performance of 5 tracks recorded at Red Gate Recorders in LA. His first release of 2019 was ‘Therapy,’ a sweeping piano ballad with themes of mental health and self love. This was followed by ‘Fear Of Lonely’, written during Benedict’s time living in Stockholm, Sweden about the loneliness of moving to a new country after a break-up, and 'Funny How Things Change,' which explores the passing of time after a relationship ends and the distance this can create between two people. Most recently, Benedict supported Brit Award winner Tom Walker and Grammy nominated Emily King and co-wrote Adam Lambert’s single ‘Feel Something’ which Rolling Stone called “an achingly yearning ballad.” He returns with his fourth single of 2019 'Breaking Hearts,' which focuses on the guilt and regret of breaking the heart of someone you thought you loved.

Norman Jay MBE, one of the most respected DJ’s in the world today, will be landing on the Great Oak Stage this summer. Finding his space once again, Norman has amassed a new generation of Dance music fans globally whilst continuing to incorporate his rich music heritage into every set. Expect to see all walks of life in this crow.

The Heavy are back bolder than ever with their forth album, Sons, released earlier this year. The Rock-Soul infused Hip-Hop party starters pour raw and intense emotion into their live sets which has led to high profile features over the years. There is no sign of stopping for the Bath based band so buckle up for a captivating performance.

The Cuban Brothers, consisting of Miguel Mantovani, Archerio Mantovani and Kengo San’s legendary performances have left a mark as they continuously sell out shows worldwide. Their music combines soul and funk with comedy whilst accompanying sensational dancing meaning no one will be able to remain static at their BST performance.

Four of Diamonds are bringing their vibrant positivity to BST this July with empowering, lively and fun music. The four girls first met in the thirteenth series of the X factor after they were placed together as a group. Their punchy, euphoric sound steps away from the girl bands that have preceded them.

Also already on the bill: Lionel Richie, Lianne La Havas and Corinne Bailey Rae. Visit BST Online for full line up.

Singer, songwriter, musician, and producer Stevie Wonder has announced “The Stevie Wonder Song Party: A Celebration of Life, Love & Music”, with very special guest Lionel Richie, in concert at Hyde Park Saturday 6th of July, 2019.

Stevie Wonder is one of the most celebrated and prominent figures in popular music who, at the age of 12, was the youngest recording artist to have achieved a #1 single with “Fingertips, Part 2”.

To date he has amassed 49 Top Forty singles, 32 #1 singles and worldwide sales of over 100 million units. Stevie has won 25 Grammy Awards, the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.

As an activist, Stevie also spearheaded the realization of “Martin Luther King Day” as a national holiday. His participation in the “We Are The World” fundraiser for hunger in Africa was a music industry milestone and his involvement to put an end to apartheid in South Africa is legendary. He is the youngest recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors, and is a Commander of France's National Order of Arts and Letters.

Stevie was awarded the Library of Congress' Gershwin Prize for Popular Song where he performed his commission, “Sketches Of A Life," which placed him in a very select group of eminent composers who have received library commissions, including Aaron Copeland, Leonard Bernstein and Paquito D'Rivera.

Stevie has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and he is a designated U.N. Messenger of Peace with special focus on persons with disabilities. He continues to be a pivotal influence in U.S. and world events, demonstrating the activism that has made him such a vital voice for social progress and world harmony.

Lionel Richie will be amongst the very special guests sharing the Great Oak Stage on July 6th. In December 2017, Stevie Wonder performed a cover of ‘Easy’ at Richie’s Kennedy Center Honours ceremony, which left Richie visibly emotional. He later said, "I got into the business because I wanted to be like Stevie Wonder, so for all of a sudden for Stevie to be singing my song, it was surreal."

Lionel Richie has a discography of albums and singles that are second to none. His music is part of the fabric of pop music; in fact, Richie is one of only two songwriters in history to achieve the honour of having #1 records for nine consecutive years. Richie has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide and is an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and four-time Grammy Awards winner. He received the distinction of MusicCares person of the year in 2016 and was a Kennedy Center Honoree in 2017. In March 2018, Richie put his handprints and footprints in cement at the TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX in Hollywood, one of the oldest awards in Hollywood. Lionel Richie is known for his early work with The Commodores as well as for his solo mega-hits including “Endless Love,” “Lady,” “Truly,” “All Night Long,” “Penny Lover,” “Stuck on You,” “Hello,” “Say You, Say Me,” “Dancing on the Ceiling,” and one of the most important pop songs in history, “We Are the World,” for USA for Africa. With his most recent All the Hits, All Night Long Tour, Richie sold out arenas worldwide with a set list of his brightest and best anthems. In recent years, he has also headlined festivals including Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, and Glastonbury, drawing the festival’s biggest crowd ever with more than 200,000 attendees. Richie was a judge on ABC’s American Idol and has returned to the ‘Judge’s’ chair for the 2019 season.

About Hyde Park and The Royal Parks
Every year millions of visitors from London, the UK and across the globe enjoy the iconic Hyde Park, one of the capital’s eight Royal Parks. Spanning 350 acres of green space in central London, Hyde Park has hosted world-renowned music artists since the 1960s. The summer concerts are an essential part of income generation for The Royal Parks, providing necessary funds to maintain and develop the parks for future generations to enjoy. They also help support the diverse culture of London and introduce new audiences to the parks.

The Royal Parks is a charity created in March 2017 to manage 5,000 acres of historic Royal parkland across London.

The Royal Parks are: Hyde Park, The Green Park, Richmond Park, Greenwich Park, St James’s Park, Bushy Park, The Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill, and Kensington Gardens. We also manage other important open spaces in the capital including Brompton Cemetery, Victoria Tower Gardens, Canning Green and Poet’s Corner, and we maintain the gardens of 10, 11 and 12 Downing Street.

It costs £40m a year to manage the parks. We raise around 75 per cent of this money ourselves, with the remaining 25 per cent coming from Government.
