Take ANGEL HAS FALLEN Home On 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD + Franchise Triple Boxset Now – Most Beloved Trilogies in Cinema

20 December 2019

It can be difficult to construct a tight story arc over the course of one work, let alone three. When these pieces are feature films, however, the task arguably becomes a little less daunting. With its capacity to thrill and move in equal measure, the cinematic medium is more than capable of engrossing us for not one, not two, but three instalments…as long as the narrative is engaging enough, that is.

To celebrate the home entertainment release of Angel Has Fallen (available NOW on digital download, 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD and franchise triple boxset), the final leg of Gerard Butler’s legendary journey that began in Olympus (2013) and moved through London (2016), join us for a recap of the most beloved film trilogies of all time...\\

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King (2001-3)
Rarely do all three films in a series maintain equally high standards, but Peter Jackson’s masterful Lord of the Rings trilogy is in a league of its own. Essentially redefining the epic fantasy genre with its mind-blowingly vivid adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s beloved novels, Jackson’s trilogy tells the story of Frodo’s (Elijah Wood) voyage to Mount Doom to destroy Dark Lord Sauron’s One Ring and rid Middle Earth of evil. The final piece of the jigsaw, 2003’s The Return of the King, picked up an unprecedented clean sweep of 11 Oscars at the 76th Academy Awards – both Ben-Hur (1959) and Titanic (1997) won the same number, but only Jackson’s film was victorious in every category in which it was nominated. A transcendental cinematic experience in every sense.

Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008), The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Christopher Nolan’s gritty Batman trilogy possesses all the characteristics of a cinematic hall-of-famer: ridiculously cool vehicles (who can forget the tank-like ‘Tumbler’ Batmobile or super-sleek Batpod from TDK?), fearsome villains (Cillian Murphy as Scarecrow, Tom Hardy as Bane and Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning performance as Joker? Nuff said!), and, most importantly, a gripping narrative full of unexpected twists and turns across all three films. Christian Bale is perfectly cast as the Caped Crusader, providing just the right balance between Bruce Wayne’s effusive charisma and his alter-ego’s cold exterior. When it comes to Nolan, you just know you’re in for a treat. When it comes to Nolan mixed with Batman, you know it’s going to go down in cinematic folklore.

The Matrix (1999), The Matrix: Reloaded, The Matrix: Revolutions (both 2003)
Before making a welcome return to form as the eponymous hero in the gun-tastic John Wick franchise, Keanu Reeves was Thomas A. Anderson, Neo, or, quite simply, ‘The One’ in the Wachowskis’ stunning Matrix trilogy. Coming at the turn of the new millennium, this series of films changed the sci-fi landscape and left us all questioning whether we too were living in a simulated reality. What other film can lay claim to inspiring a host of wannabes attempting to recreate the iconic rooftop ‘bullet time’ sequence in swimming pools across the world? When else has the spirit of Alice in Wonderland been channelled as effectively as Morpheus’ red pill manages to? As we tumble down the rabbit hole in pursuit of the truth, we realise that ‘seminal’ doesn’t do this franchise justice.

Back to the Future (1985), Back to the Future: Part II (1989), Back to the Future: Part III (1990)
In another wonderfully imaginative trilogy from director Robert Zemeckis, Back to the Future draws on human fascination with time travel to provide a superb comedic take on the sci-fi genre. Everyone’s favourite Californian cool kid Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) teams up with eccentric scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) to find out what life was like in the 1950s, hilariously becoming his own mother’s high-school crush in the process, before jetting back to a speculative future in the first sequel. By the time the third film arrives, we’ve travelled to a 19th century Western landscape, complete with cowboys and Native Americans in a world where Marty and Doc’s adventures have no bounds. Unmissable family viewing with a warm-hearted, super-intelligent core.
