Taken franchise star Liam Neeson describes his action hero status as a joke

11 September 2013

Oscar nominated Taken franchise star Liam Neeson has described himself becoming an action hero in his 60's as a "joke".

Speaking to journalists at the Toronto International Film Festival, nelson Neeson admitted that he usually accepted action roles such as Taken for the money on offer and when asked why he has shifted more from serious roles to action in recent years, he answered "Because they're dumb enough to offer them to me!

It's like, I'm 61 years of age! I mean, come on. It's a joke. It's like [mimes talking into phone], 'How much? OK, I'll be there'."

Neeson returns to cinemas with Paul Haggis's romantic drama Third Person alongside Olivia Wilde and James Franco, which follows three inter-connected love stories that take place in Paris, New York and Rome and speaking about how he got involved in the film he said "I had worked one day with Paul on The Next Three Days. It was a wonderful experience.

I've had not very good experiences with writer-directors in the past and I was very curious about Paul after my own day. Then we met for some other projects that didn't work out and I'm doing action movies these days, but he sent me this script."

It has been reported that Neeson is close to securing a $20 million deal to star in Taken 3.
