Tamara Drewe Premiere Announced
The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts is delighted to announce that they have been chosen by Momentum Pictures as the beneficiary charity of the UK premiere of Tamara Drewe, taking place on Monday, 6 September and you could be there too.
With a full British cast and crew, this is set to be the premiere of the year and has already received outstanding reviews from its special screening out of competition at the Cannes festival. All of the cast are expected to attend the premiere, including Gemma Arterton and Dominic Cooper.
About Tamara Drewe
Based on Posy Simmonds’ much-loved graphic novel, which in turn was inspired by Thomas Hardy’s Far From the Madding Crowd, Tamara Drewe is a joyful but occasionally dark comedy about a young newspaper journalist torn between two lovers. Tamara’s childhood home is being sold, and her return to the rural Dorset village where she grew up causes something of a stir. Having left as an awkward teenager she returns as a smoldering femme fatale, kicking up a storm of envy, lust and gossip wherever she goes. Tamara is the ultimate modern girl but her story of love and confusion is timeless.

Director Stephen Frears, one of Britain’s finest talents known for The Queen and Mrs Henderson Presents, has cast Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, St. Trinian’s) as Tamara, Dominic Cooper (An Education, Mamma Mia!), as the pouty, indie drummer, Roger Allam (The Queen, The Wind that Shakes the Barley) as the crime novelist and Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans, Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll) as the stolid farmhand. We are also thrilled that Children & the Arts’ Ambassador James Naughtie also makes an appearance.
Frears found having Posy Simmonds’ illustrations as a reference point an aid: “It was very, very liberating. Literally there was a storyboard if you chose to think about it like that. Frequently we would do things and you’d look at it in the book and say – Well, I can’t improve on that. It tells you everything you want to know.”

All proceeds will support Children & the Arts’ work across the UK in 2011/12, taking sustainable high quality arts projects to school children who would otherwise not have the opportunity.
