THANKS A MILLION + CHRISSY’S COURT + MOST DANGEROUS GAME + SURVIVE: New Short-Form Mobile Platform QUIBI Launches Today
In an age where Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney Plus are ruling supreme, Los Angeles-based QUIBI has decided to enter the market with the launch of its streaming service today.
Quibi, which is short for Quick Bites, is unique to the other streaming services, with the fact that it is for short-form productions (10 minutes or less) and is catered to be used on smartphones. The company released 50 programs that feature star-studded giants, such as Jennifer Lopez (Thanks A Million), Chrissy Teigen (Chrissy's Court), Liam Hemsworth (Most Dangerous Game) and Sophie Turner (Survive).
The company was founded in 2018 by Jeffrey Katzenberg, who obtained $1 billion from investors, including well-known studios, such as NBCUniversal, The Walt Disney Company, WarnerMedia and Sony Pictures. The platform will initially showcase three types of programming: Daily Essentials (general news stories); documentary shorts and reality content; and "Movies in Chapters" (feature-length movies shown in chapters no longer than 10 minutes long).
Quibi is available for $7.99 per month (without ads) and $4.99 (with ads). The service is expected to have 125 titles within the first year of its release. If you sign up before 30th April, you will receive Quibi free for the first 90 days. Other alternatives can be found here.
