The 88th Academy Awards nominations are in with The Revenant leading the way with 12 nominations

The nominations for the 88th Academy Awards are in with little surprises, Alejandro G. Iñárritu has been nominated for Best Director for the incredible The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio who has also been honoured with a Best Actor nod. In total, The Revenant has 12 nominations.

With 10 nominations, Mad Max: Fury Road comes in second place with George Miller receiving a Best Director nomination as well as Best Picture.

Ridley Scott’s incredible return to form The Martian received 7 nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor and Adapted Screenplay. Brie Larson has been honoured with a Best Actress nod for her Golden Globe winning performance in Room.

As well as receiving a nomination for Best Picture, Brooklyn Actress Saoirse Ronan is nominated for Best Actress and Adapted Screenplay for Nick Hornby and Sylvester Stallone has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his Golden Globe winning performance in Ryan Coogler’s Creed.

Disney•Pixar’s Inside Out has been nominated for Best Animated Feature alongside Anomalisa, Boy and the World, Shaun the Sheep Movie and When Marnie Was There.

Disney/ Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens has also been honoured with nominations in Visual Effects, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Editing and Original Score.
