The BAFTA’s crown Colin Firth’s The King’s Speech

13 February 2011

Runaway favourite The King's Speech unsurprisingly took away a total of seven awards at tonight's British Academy Film and Television Awards. Among the awards it received were Best Film, Best British Film and Best Actor for Colin Firth who deserves every accolade for his stellar performance as the reluctant king.

Tanya Seghatchian, Head of the UK Film Council's Film Fund, said "Tonight's result is a triumph for the creators, cast and everyone involved with The King's Speech. The recipient of 12 Oscar nominations, the highest grossing British independent film of all time in the UK and now the winner of a host of BAFTAs - The King's Speech represents a great validation for the UK film industry as a whole and an amazing legacy for the UK Film Council."

Alice In Wonderland, Inception and The Social Network each picked up three, with The Social Network picking up Best Director and Toy Story 3 won best animated film.
