The Fan Carpet's Ollie Hayes was on the red carpet last night in London's Leicester Square for the Gala's of The Sapphires and Dustin Hoffman's directorial debut Quartet.
Ollie speaks to Wayne Blair the director of The Sapphires and his cast Deborah Mailman and Shari Sebbens as well as national treasure Chris O'Dowd.
He follows that by talking to Pauline Collins, Billy Connolly and Hollywood legend Dustin Hoffman for the premiere of Quartet.
When asked about the conception of the film, Wayne Blair said "Basically it was Tony Briggs's family story and it was a stage play in Australia, and I was an actor there in the show at the time and I remember after the show ended, Tony got so many offers from Producers all around the world and it was a cas of being in the right place at the right time. I was producing a short film for TV at the time but the stars aligned and we produced the film over the last seven years."
Pauline Collins and Billy Connolly were full of praise for their director Dustin Hoffman and reflecting on what being an actor brought to the table as a director, Hoffman said "I think the best directors have been actors, I think one thing actors have in common which directors are not usually sensitive to, is that we are asked to get it right straight away, all the time is spent lighting the scene, setting the scene, and the actors are sitting in their campers or wherever and they say we are ready for you, and you come out and they expect you to get it right away. The most sensitive thing a director can do is let them fail."
THE SAPPHIRES IS OUT ON NOVEMBER 7 WHILE QUARTET IS OUT ON JANUARY 4
