The Fighter starring Mark Wahlberg weighs in with knockout

13 December 2010

THE FIGHTER, starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Melissa Leo, registered an impressive opening in the US over the weekend, grossing $320,000 from four theatres for a screen average of $80,000, making it one of biggest per-theatre debuts of all time.

THE FIGHTER will be released by Paramount and Momentum Pictures in the UK in Ireland on 4 February 2011.

Directed by David O Russell, THE FIGHTER was also included in the Top 10 films of 2010 by both the American Film Institute and National Board of Review.

THE FIGHTER stars Academy Award Nominee Mark Wahlberg (BOOGIE NIGHTS, THE DEPARTED) as boxer ‘Irish' Mickey Ward with Christian Bale (THE DARK KNIGHT, TERMINATOR SALVATION) as his half brother and trainer Dicky Ecklund. The film chronicles Ward's struggle to forge a career in the ring and manage his relationship with his wayward half-brother and family. Joining the cast is Academy Award nominee Amy Adams (CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR, JULIE & JULIA) as Micky's girlfriend Charlene and Melissa Leo (CONVICTION, FROZEN RIVER) as the family's domineering matriarch Alice.
