The Flash ‘closer to the green light’

28 May 2010

'The Flash' may be heading to our cinemas sooner than we thought as Warner Bros gave a big presentation to Time Warner investors yesterday, where they stated the film was closer to getting the green light to start production, this confirms February rumours that they were on the hunt for a director, but that's scant news for Flash fans. They've been waiting for years, and through dozens of Ryan Reynolds rumours. They're hungry for a film. Sadly, "closer to a green light" doesn't even give them a screenwriter to wonder about.

The tale of the swift superhero getting to the screen has been long, arduous and ironically slow, with various filmmakers and actors loosely attached through the years. David Goyer was one of the bigger names, having written a draft of the script and with plans to direct before Shawn Levy took over, albeit not for long.

Back when the character was slated to be part of the ever-gestating Justice League film, Adam Brody was in line to play Wally West (one of the character’s alter egos through the years). Currently, Dan Mazeau is writing the script, based on a story by comics veteran Geoff Johns.

In other news, the studio really wants another Superman film, the one that Chris Nolan is helping to develop – as their Christmas gift to cinemagoers in 2012. Fingers crossed we get something great and not a lump of Kryptonite in our stockings.

I can't help but compare them to Marvel, who has (reportedly) immediately put Joss Whedon to work on their characters as opposed to wasting his time with a Wonder Woman that never seems to become anything. The DC Universe still seems to bewilder Warner Bros, and the way Jonah Hex has been handled doesn't inspire a lot of confidence for characters big or small.
