The Rite actor Sir Anthony Hopkins isn’t scary

30 January 2011

Acting legend Sir Anthony Hopkins has revealed that he is bemused to why audiences find him so scary. The Oscar winning Hannibal Lector actor says he is not even the scariest person in his house let alone on film. "I honestly don't know why people find me scary. I've asked myself that question many times. I guess I just have a knack for it. But that doesn't mean I'm a scary person. My wife's not scared of me. I'm scared of her!"

His latest film; The Rite from writer and director Mikael Håfström is currently number one at the US box office. Based on the novel by Matt Baglio, The Rite opens across the UK on February 25, also stars Alice Braga, Ciarán Hinds, Toby Jone and acting legend Rutger Hauer.

Inspired by true events, The Rite follows skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O'Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. While in Rome, he meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins), who introduces him to the darker side of his faith. Directed by Mikael Håfström ("1408"), "The Rite" is a supernatural thriller that uncovers the devil's reach to even one of the holiest places on Earth.
