Joe DeRosa Says He’s Quitting His Podcast, Discusses His Reluctance To Find His Birth Parents and Talks About Tensions With Anthony Cumia
Comedian and writer Joe DeRosa (Better Call Saul, The Pete Holmes Show, Opie & Anthony, Grand Theft Auto V) asks Alison Rosen if he can use this episode of ARIYNBF as a cross-over for his own show, Down With Joe DeRosa. Then he announces he’ll be ending his podcast soon.
“I’m really not feeling my show,” DeRosa, who started his podcast in February 2014, tells Rosen. “This now will be the episode where I announce to the fans that my show is ending. I haven’t said it yet.”
DeRosa says he feels like his show, in which he and a guest delve into one main topic per episode, has run its course and is limiting because it won’t work in a live setting. “I just don’t care anymore. I just don’t feel the urge. It was fun but I didn’t really see where else we could go with it,” says DeRosa.
He says he’s working on a new podcast that is related to sci-fi and horror.
In this highly personal episode, DeRosa, who is adopted, tells Rosen he’s always wanted to find his birth parents, but hasn’t begun the process yet. First he says it’s because he’s “too lazy” but then goes into further detail.
“You start, I think, with private investigators. And it’s like any other business. There are Yelp reviews and there were tons of reviews where they were like, ‘They didn’t do shit. I gave them all this money.’ That was all I needed to see. Fuck it. I’ll do it later.”
On this episode of Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend, DeRosa also talks about acting on Better Call Saul with Jonathan Banks (and how surprised he was that he booked the job), dealing with internet haters, depression and how living in L.A. is like living in a neon sewer.
DeRosa (who used to regularly appear on Opie and Anthony) also talks openly and diplomatically about his strained relationship (“quite a falling out”) with Anthony Cumia following Cumia’s highly publicized incident in Times Square. (1:03:40)
